WEDNESDAY MORNINGS

 

3rd, 10th, 17th December. TWO WEEK BREAK. 7th, 14th, 21st January 2026.

 

Times - 9.30 - 11.30


Location – 13 Blundells Road, Tilehurst, Berkshire, RG30 4TR – please follow signs upon arrival and
make your way to the rear of the house and the sewing workshop


Costs – £160 for the full six week block

 

OPTOPNS - Please choose below if you would like to do Beginners, Understanding Commercial Patterns (an introduction to dressmaking), or Quilting. 

 

The equipment you will be expected to bring each week is listed in the course details below; whichever fabric you decide on (I can provide fabric at £15 per meter if required), please ensure it is washed and dried however you intend to wash and dry the finished garments (in my house, that’s a
40 wash and a tumble dry!) so that any shrinkage occurs before all your hard work!

Below is the syllabus for the Beginners Syllabus. The first four weeks; on weeks five and six you will be working on your own project so tutorage will be based on your requirements and prior knowledge. At the bottom of the page is the equipment you will be expected to bring each week.


Required equipment:


All Weeks – sewing machine, sewing machine instruction manual(s), threads, bobbins, scrap fabric


Week One – Get to know your machine
Required Haberdashery – none


Week Two – Cutting straight, sewing straight, French Seams – make a tote bag
Required Haberdashery – two fat quarters (or a 0.5m by width of fabric) of woven fabric such as cotton, canvas, poly-co􀆩on, linen. Optional: webbing strap tape in a complimentary colour.


Week Three – Cuttng curves, sewing curves, sew zips – make a fully lined zip pouch
Required Haberdashery - two fat quarters (or a 0.5m by width of fabric) of woven fabric such as cotton, canvas, poly-cotton, linen. Optional: an 8” zip in a complimentary colour (standard colours will be provided).


Week Four – Darts, gathers, pleats, stretchy fabrics, bias binding, prepare your pattern for your
project.
Required Haberdashery – a top, t-shirt or simple blouse patern (don’t panic, we’ll talk about this during the previous three weeks!), tracing paper, fabric for your project.


Weeks Five and Six – Project work.
