Location - 13 Blundells Road, Tilehurst, Berkshire, RG30 4TR- please follow signs upon arrival and make your way to the rear of the house and sewing workshop.
We usually have a WhatsApp chat for monthly clubs, if you'd like to be in one, please let me know and provide me with your phone number (if I don't already have it)
Should you wish to make use of my fabric, it is charged at £15pm. Full payment is required to secure your place.
These are social sewing sessions. There is no fixed lesson, but support will be available throughout.
I strongly recommend washing and drying your fabric as you would your finished garment so you can sew, in confidence, knowing that they won’t shrink in the wash! (This isn’t really necessary for bags!)
Whilst these will be educational evenings, it is intended to be a lot of fun and a great excuse to have a natter with good friends or make some new ones. If you have any questions, before or after the event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
FAQs:
Are the sessions online? No, these are live, in person classes held in Reading, Berkshire. They run monthly, 7.30 - 9.30pm.
Will there be support in between the sessions? Yes, there is an active WhatsApp chat and queries will be answered daily.
Am I expected to sew alone? Yes, you are expected to know how to thread a sewing machine and own one, or have access to one. You will sew the project alone, with support from the sessions, and WhatsApp chat.
Can I still join the in other in person classes? Yes, you can book this alongside another craft club.
Can I opt to supply the patterns myself? Absolutely. I aim to get better value for you all by buying wholesale but you are welcome to source them yourself.
Will all patterns be printed and given to me? Yes, if you pick that option. Generally all sizes the pattern offers will be provided, occasionally you will be required to pick a size/height range in advance. These will be handed out bimonthly at the sew-alongs. If you do not attend, you will be required to find time to collect, or pay for postage separately.
What patterns will you use? We aim to create a capsule wardrobe throughout the year. This is our working plan, but there is scope for change:
👖 Helen's Closet Lockhart Jumpsuit and Dress
👕 Jalie Claudette Shirt and Shirtdress
👙 Cashmerette Willowdale Bra (or Loftus bralette)
The other two patterns are yet to be determined, I will update the website listing and those booked on when decisions are made.
Will fitting support be available? You can get as much out of this as you put in. Particularly with the fitting of trousers and bra. If you sew a toile (a tester garment) and share fit pictures/videos, I can help with fit issues, adjustments and grading. If you just say "it doesn't fit", there isn't really much I can do to help!
You said this is for intermediate sewists, how do I know this is for me? This course will take you from an intermediate sewist to confident in all fields. Will your first toile of a jumpsuit be fabulous? Probably not. Will you learn a heck of a lot along the way? Absolutely. If you understand the basic principles of following a pattern, I can guide you through a well fitted capsule wardrobe if you are willing to put in the work.
Can men join? I can only see women's patterns? To be honest, this isn't a question I had anticipated. I am happy to run a men's pattern club, or to have them join in this and I can provide male patterns of a similar genre. Please contact me after booking if this is the case.
